Established in 2010, we’re thrilled to be part of historic downtown Mebane. We’re Carl and Barbara Guttman a husband and wife team with a passion for saving old buildings. We lovingly remodel them giving them all the new stuff they need (HVAC, plumbing, electric, etc) while retaining their unique charm and character. A few years ago we bought an old Chevy dealership building (when purchased the exterior was painted “pink” and it was a “dented can” grocery store) with the idea to rehab, divide and rent it. The down turn in the economy changed a few things. We had 8,000 of the 13,500 sq ft rehabbed and no tenants. So we scratched our heads and asked ourselves, what can two unemployed general contractors (Carl & Barbara) do with our beautiful 8,000 sq ft of space? After much thought and discussion the idea of Melville Trading Company started to form. We thought of renting mini “retail” spaces to entrepreneurial folks. So now we’re a mini retail incubator with everything from antiques to gourmet food.  So, come by and listen to some great jazz and enjoy browsing our 8,000 sq ft of industrial, loft-style space. The atmosphere is great; soaring ceilings, exposed brick walls and stained concrete floor. It’s the perfect backdrop for our many unique and beautiful items.
